Welcome to Grade 3 F.I at Brooklin Village.
LOOKING BACK ON APRIL In writing, students learned how to write paragraphs to describe an extra-terrestrial that they created uisng adjectives to help create a mental picture. Students presented their work in an oral presentation that incorporated drama. At the end of April, students began an animal research project learning how to fill pull out key information from a text and write the main idea in their own words. In reading, students learned how to identify main ideas in a text and refer back to them using post-it notes. In math, students learned about measurement ( in particular perimeter, area, and length) as well as multiplication and division. In phys.ed, students created a dance in groups of 3-4. In social studies, students are learning about pioneer life. They learned different roles and responsibilities people had depending on their age and gender.

calendar of eventsMay 3rd - Willy Wonka play at Meadowcrest May 7th-11th Butterfly Project: 1 500 000 innocent children perished Holocaust. In an effort to Holocaust Museum Houston is collecting 1.5 million handmade butterflies. The butterflies will eventually comprise a breath currently scheduled for Spring 2014, for all to Our school has chosen to participate in this initiative by creating butterflies to send to the museum. During the week of May 7th – 11th, students are invited to to send to the exhibit by visiting rm 105 during lunch recess on Mon., Tues., or Thurs. In order to cover the cost of shipping the butterflies to Texas, students bring $2 for each butterfly they wish to create different butterfly will be created each day. Descriptive Writing
Animal Research Project Over the next couple of weeks our class will be working on their final descriptive writing task: ANIMAL RESEARCH PROJECT. Each student has chosen an animal that they will be researching in class. They will present their published piece in a pamphlet using MICROSOFT PUBLISHER. Below is the success criteria: Mon dépliant contient un titre. Je décris mon animal. GEOMETRY (GRIDS, SLIDES,FLIPS, and TURNS) Quadrillages (Grids) Key Vocabulary: un quadrillage (grid) les déplacements (steps taken to arrive at destination) le trajet (path taken) 1.) read a grid and locate the correct object based on the description given. For example, move two spaces left, one space up and three spaces to the right. Where are you now? Identify the type of translation the shape is showing: vertical, horizontal, diagonal and explain why you answered the way you did. For example, it’s a horizontal slide because the shape moves across the same line from left to right but does not change direction. This lesson was the most difficult for students to comprehend. -think of placing 12, 3,6 and 9 around the drawing to visualize a clock. From 12-3 = 1/4 turn (you passed 1 number) from 12-6 = 1/2 turn (you passed 2 numbers) from 12-9 = 3/4 turn (you passed 3 numbes) From 12-12 = full turn (une rotation) 1.) describe how many turns the shape rotated (1/4, 1/2, 3/4) 2.)
