Agenda

The students will be using an agenda this year, where they can record their nightly homework. All homework written in the agenda is due the next day (unless otherwise indicated). Parents are asked to initial every day (including Friday) when homework is completed. Please initial the agenda after you have checked the work and it is completed. We encourage you to write your comments and notes to the teacher in this book. You can also place your notes in the plastic envelope at the beginning of the book. It will be the student's responsibility to give these notes to the teacher. Please ensure when you send money to send exact change and send it in a enveloppe/ ziplock with your child's name.

 Description of the Weekly Homework:

-  any incomplete class work in French or English including Social
Studies , Science, Mathematics, etc.

-  research project or tests when assigned

If your child cannot complete the task because he/she does not understand the subject matter, please let us know in the agenda. The problem will be taken up the next day. If the homework has not been completed for a specific reason, we would appreciate a note in the agenda.

Homework Duo-tang

Your child will receive every friday a homework duo-tang with his/her weekly homework. This work will consist of their dictee , 1 verb, 1 math problem and the occasional worksheets. Your child has the whole week to complete this and the spelling test will be on the following friday.

Here are 2 important ways in which you can support your child's learning this year:

1.  Encourage your child to read for enjoyment on a regular basis.  Reading helps to improve fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary.  Reading will help your child to develop a love of books. I ask that your child try to read 15-20 minutes a day in French and/or in English. We will begin a home reading program by the end of the month. More information to come.

2.  Do some math with your child each day.  Sports, cooking, and games (dice, card, and board games) can provide meaningful opportunities to improve mathematical understanding.  A primary goal should be to build confidence, skills, and an enjoyment of math, so that your child will want to keep doing mathematics throughout his or her life.
