Language

 MARCH 29TH

We are working on Grade 3 words and commonly misspelled words as seen in dictée for this week.

We are working hard on the conventions of writing. Students must be using capitals at the beginning of each sentence and proper punctuation at the end of a sentence or question. Students should also be properly using comas when listing items (i.e. J'aime les pommes, les bananes et les oranges.). Students should also be writing sentences whcih are complete thoughts and make sense. We are also working on answering reading comprehension questions using complete sentences in a written format.  

Math

APRIL 23rd - MULTIPLICATION AND DIVISION UNIT

We are working on multiplication facts up to 7x7 and division facts up to 49 divided by 7.  CHALLENGE - go up to 10x10 and 100 divided by 10

This unit involves all the above number facts as well as word problems involving the use of multiplication and division.

Examples:

a)  Four children are playing tennis together. They all brought six balls. How many balls do they have total?

b)  The Smith family has five members. Each member has a small towel and a bath towel. How many towels hang in the bathroom?

c)   The Jones family orders four pizzas to eat. Each pizza is sliced into four parts.  How many pizza slices do they get?

d)  A town has three post offices. In each post office there are five workers. How many workers do the post offices have in total?

e) There are 10 students in the poetry club. Last year, each student wrote 6 poems. How many poems did the students in the club write in all?

f) Lester bought 3 boxes of chocolates. There were 3 chocolates in each box. How many chocolates did Lester buy?

g) Shawna bought 3 bags of potatoes. There were 4 potatoes in each bag. How many potatoes did Shawna buy?

h) A cookie factory produced 2 packages of cookies. There were 8 cookies in each package. How many cookies did the factory produce in all?

i) Jae wants to buy 35 ping-pong balls. If there are 7 balls in each pack, how many packs of ping-pong balls should Jae buy?

j) Haley shipped 8 glass bowls to her mother. If she divided the bowls equally among 4 boxes, how many bowls did Haley put in each box?

k) Haley's school hung up 12 banners in the gym. They distributed the banners in 4 even rows. How many banners are in each row?

l)  Brandon went to the grocery store and bought 24 bagels. If there are 8 bagels in each pack, how many packs of bagels did Brandon buy?







 

 

 

 

 

Science

MARCH 29th

After the Easter Holidays, we will be starting our unit on Understanding Space Systems: Soil in our Environment. The Overall Expectations of this unit will include the following:

assessing the impact of soils on society and the environment, and of society and the environment on soils;

investigating the composition and characteristics of different soils;

- demonstrating an understanding of the composition of soils, the types of soils, and the relationship between soils and other living things.

Drama/Dance

MARCH 30th - Students have been doing a dance unit in combination with our Physical Activity time in the gym for the last few weeks. This past week students a group self-created 'sports' themed dance.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Homework

 

MARCH 30th - Please read Home Reading book 15 per evening (most evenings) and remember to exchange every Monday and Friday (Tuesday or Thursday if Monday and Friday are holidays).
