Bienvenue à la classe de Mme Browne

Language

We are working hard on the conventions of writing. Students must be using capitals at the beginning of each sentence and proper punctuation at the end of a sentence or question. Students should also be properly using comas when listing items (i.e. J'aime les pommes, les bananes et les oranges.). Students should also be writing sentences which are complete thoughts and make sense. We are also working on answering reading comprehension questions using complete sentences in a written format.

Math

Measurement Unit : Since returning from March Break, students have been working on a new unit in Measurement. We have been working on:

- estimating length/distance in centimetres and metres (i.e. estimate the length of your desk in centimetres, estimate distance in metres from the office to the gym in metres)

- measuring in centimetres and metres (i.e. measure the length of your shoe in centimetres, measeure the length or width of the portable in metres)

- measuring and calculating perimetre (i.e. measuring the perimetre of a shape drawn on grid paper in terms of units, measuring the perimetre of a shape on a plain background in terms of centimetres, measuring each side and adding them all up to find the total)

- measuring area (i.e. measuring area of a shape on grid paper by counting units) This also includes half units with the understanding that 2 half unit make up 1 unit.

- creating shapes with a specific perimeter or area (i.e. draw a shape on grid paper with a perimeter of 20, draw a shape on grid paper with an area of 35).

 Art

The students have been doing some interesting little projects.  A couple of weeks ago, the students did a life-sized sketch of his/her own shoe.  Then, to change the perspective, they drew little people having 'adventures' on the shoe.  That was a lot of fun!   And last week, we tried our hand at animation by making 'flip books'.   The students really enjoyed that!

 Drama/Dance

The students have been working on the play "Cendrillon".  Most of the kids know all of their lines already.  Now they are working on 'blocking', entering and exiting, voice and presentation skills.

Students have been doing a dance unit in combination with our Physical Activity time in the gym for the last few weeks. This past week, small groups of students choreographed and presented a 'sports' themed dance.
