Home Reading DAILY
Participation in the Home Reading program is an expectation for grade 5 students. Daily home reading, a minimum of 15 minutes, is expected to be documented on the Home Reading log, signed by a parent and returned to school. (If your child reads for 30 minutes sign it twice). Some children have returned four logs already. Please help your child meet this goal by encouraging home reading and signing the log. Thank you!
Writing
Persuasive Writing, students will brainstorm, use a graphic organizer, draft, edit, peer edit and publish their five paragraph essays.
Reading
We are starting an exciting "Survivor" book study in the Library in January. Be sure your child keeps up with the reading deadlines and has their "job" completed for the the book chat sessions.
Social Studies
Ancient Civilizations is our next unit in Social Studies. I will be teaching them about Ancient Egypt. In the new year, students will research their own project based on a choice of ancient civilizations (China, Greece, Mayan, etc.), create a report, bristol board, and orally present to the class.
Math
Our next math unit is data management. Students will create, describe and compare data on various graphs.
Homework - Any unfinished school work shall be completed at home by the student and returned the next day.
****Review your multiplication facts up to 9 x 9. You really need to know them, math class will be so much easier if you have them memorized. We will be multiplying three digit numbers by two digit numbers, as well as division.
