NewsletterOctober 2011 GRADE 4/5 We are becoming more comfortable with our schedule. The weather is changing! We are enjoying the beautiful fall colours and the cooler temperatures in the class. I hope everyone is well and have enjoyed the first few months of school. If there are any questions or concerns, please contact me through a note in the agenda or phone the school and leave a message. I will call you back as soon as I can. Please continue to send in hand gel, disinfecting wipes, papertowel and kleenex. We are heading into flu season and I will do my best with the help of the students to keep hands clean and tables wiped! We have gym on days 1, 3, 5. Core French everyday but day 5, for a total of 6, 30 minute periods. Music is on day 2 and day 4. PLEASE BRING A CLEAN CHANGE OF CLOTHES TO SCHOOL FOR GYM. IF NECESSARY YOU MAY ALSO BRING DEODAURANT TO USE AFTER GYM. If students do not bring a change of clothes they cannot participate in gym and need to complete a work sheet during the gym period and get it signed by a parent and returned to school the next day. Please review reading strategies and math skills and continue to practice these basic skills with your parents/child during the school year. Please review adding and subtracting strategies and multiplication tables up to 9. When reading, practice retelling the story in your own words. It is also good practice to visualize the story, predict what is going to happen next and make inferences using proof from the text. Each week we will have a spelling list. Final dictation will take place Friday morning. Homework book, usually with math review, goes home on Wednesday and is to be returned on the Monday morning of the next week. Any unfinished school work will be taken home by the student (It is their responsibility to remember to do this.) and returned the NEXT morning, completed. During the year there will be many active activities during the day. Drama, team building games, and Yoga will be part of our daily experiences. It will be used to support the curriculum and bring attention and focus to our minds and movement and health to our bodies. Please bring in a small cushion for floor activities. GRADE 5 PROJECT WENT HOME IN THE HOMEWORK BOOK ON OCTOBER 19. IT IS TO BE COMPLETED AT HOME, WITH THE USE OF THE SOCIAL STUDIES NOTEBOOK. THE DUE DATE IS WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 2. SMALL MINI QUIZZES ARE BEING CONDUCTED DURING THE WEEK ON FACTS IN OUR SOCIAL STUDIES UNIT ON GOVERNMENT. PLEASE ASK YOU CHILD IF THEY HAVE STUDIED. The Bulldog Reading program is a school wide competition to see which class can get each student in the class to earn all 9 of their stickers. A sticker is earned each month for reading and completing both sides of the Bulldog Reading sheet. Please encourage your child to do this and support them by signing the log on a regular basis.
